Letter from the President

Welcome to the 2024-2026 Board of Director’s Term - Goals and Vision for the Future

Brothers and Sisters,

I hope this letter finds you well and ready for the exciting journey that lies ahead. As we embark on a new term, I want to extend my warmest welcome to you as a valued member of the the DC FOP Lodge #1

Firstly, I would like to outline some key goals and initiatives that I believe will pave the way for a stronger and more unified FOP Lodge. One of our primary objectives is to modernize our bylaws to align with the standards set by other FOPs across the nation. This effort will allow us to have Bylaws that does not hamstring us, or labor committees, but instead will provide clear guidance to our entire membership.

Furthermore, I am enthusiastic about our role in supporting the National Fraternal Order of Police in advocating for the Pay Parity Act for Federal Police Officers. Achieving pay parity is not just a matter of fairness; it is a testament to our unwavering support for our members who are employed by the Federal Government.

In our pursuit of a fair and just working environment, we will actively engage in advocating for the repeal of the Windfall Elimination Act. This legislation has implications for the retirement benefits of our members.

A crucial decision lies ahead as we assess the need to sell our lodge building. This will require careful consideration and input from all members. As we weigh the pros and cons, let us keep in mind the long-term sustainability and growth of our lodge.

Updating our website and social media accounts. I will be working with our Recording Secretary and social media team to update our website that will provide you with updated contact information for our Board of Directors along with professionalizing our social media accounts.

Lastly, I am excited to announce our initiative to provide comprehensive labor training for all our labor committees. This training will empower our committees with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate the complex landscape of labor relations effectively.

In closing, let me emphasize that THE DC FOP is on a trajectory of progress and adaptation. The challenges we face are opportunities for growth, and with your active participation, we will continue moving forward, ensuring that our lodge remains a beacon of solidarity and strength.

Thank you for your dedication to the FOP and for the honor of serving alongside you. Together, let us make this term a resounding success.

Fraternally,

Ronald Burgeson

President
