The DC FOP Auxiliary is part of the National Auxiliary which hosts the National Memorial Law Enforcement Service in Washington, DC. They provide vital support during this Service which is attended by over 5,000 Survivors, Family Members and Law Enforcement Personnel from around the world. The Local Auxiliary also hosts the National Capitol Region Memorial Service in conjunction with the local C.O.P.S. Chapter to honor those local officers who have given all. Their motto “Never let them walk alone.” Extends to family support during and after any Critical Incident the family encounters.
In 1920, a group of wives of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania police officers gathered to discuss issues concerning their husbands and their jobs. This was the birth of the first "FOP Ladies Auxiliary." In 1941, Kathryn M. Milton became the first national president of the Ladies Auxiliary. Since that time the Auxiliary has grown to over 2,000 members in 140 subordinate Auxiliaries representing 25 states.
In 1985, membership eligibility that originally allowed only females as members was extended to family members (18 years of age or older) of any member of the Fraternal Order of Police. In 1987, the name of the organization was changed, dropping the word "Ladies" to reflect the growth in membership of the organization.
Auxiliary membership is extended to family members, 18 years of age or older, of an Active member of the Fraternal Order of Police DC Lodge #1 in good standing. Active status will be verified before accepting any membership applications. The dues are only $20.00 per year.
This is not only a great way to get your family members involved, but the auxiliary is a major support to our membership. Auxiliary members can become as involved as they have time for. At the very least they will have their very own membership card and will be able to purchase FOP Auxiliary merchandise along with applying for our Lodge’s Blue Line LES tags (law enforcement supporter.)
