August 2020 DC FOP Auxiliary Report

Hello from the DC FOP Auxiliary!! We hope everyone is continuing to have a nice Summer and we pray everyone is doing well.

We were notified that our annual crab feast that was to be held in November will have to be cancelled due to COVID-19. We unfortunately expected this to be confirmed at some point but hoped things would change.

With the help of one of our Auxiliary members, Marianne Griffin, who is a travel agent, we have started a raffle to win a cruise for next Valentine’s Day, departing on February 13, 2021 out of Miami to the Caribbean. It is a 7-night Western Caribbean cruise, with prices starting at $900 per person. The raffle tickets are $10 each and the proceeds will go to our Auxiliary. We are hoping that this fundraiser is a success. If you are interested in purchasing a ticket, please contact me at bcannon@dc-fop.org Marianne has done other fundraisers before and they turned out to be a success. If you are interested in taking this cruise you can contact Marianne at marianne@griffinwwtravel.com or call her at 703-957-8020. We are anticipating that all cruise lines will be up and running by then. We all need a relaxing cruise, right??? The drawing was supposed to be held during our November crab feast; however, we will probably change it to a later date.

We understand that most schools will be teaching virtually this coming school year until at least January 2021. We have donated school supplies from our Auxiliary in the past to schools in need; however, we will now try and locate programs for children who need supplies at their homes. It would be great to get some ideas from other Auxiliaries as to what they are going to do this year to help out with school supplies for these children. We want to show the children out there that the law enforcement community cares about them, especially now during these trying times.

Another DC MPD graduation is upon the horizon and we will continue to provide a cake. Due to COVID-19, we are still not able to attend Family Night. We are hoping that changes in the next couple of months.

We hope everyone stays healthy and if there is anything our Auxiliary can do please let us know!!! Please read below for our Legislative Report.
