FOP Lodge 1

Oklahoma Disaster Relief

We are receiving several offers of donations. We know that many of you are very anxious to help, which speaks to the strong brother/sisterhood we have and the resolve to always serve.

We’ve been in contact with the Oklahoma State FOP who assures us that the outpouring from lodges within their state and the neighboring states is overwhelming. They sincerely appreciate our offers of assistance and will let us know what, if anything, we can do.

As far as donations of items to send their way: we've learned from past disaster relief experiences that unsolicited donated goods such as used clothing, miscellaneous household items, and mixed or perishable foodstuffs require helping agencies to redirect valuable resources away from providing services to sort, package, transport, warehouse, and distribute items that may not meet the needs of disaster survivors. Therefore, although we appreciate the offers, please stand by while we await a comprehensive list of items specifically requested from the Oklahoma State FOP.

In the meantime the best way you can help is with monetary donations. The donation of funds is always best because it can be sourced out to the involved agencies to use for what they really need.

You can donate by going to www.fop.net. The banner still says hurricane sandy relief but this is the same disaster relief fund of the FOP Foundation that sends funds out to the lodges that need them during ALL disasters. This fund also reimburses lodges for expenses associated with providing assistance. As you know most lodges do NOT have the huge bankrolls to do this. There are many costs such as gas, propane, truck rentals, charcoal, portable showers, portable toilets, deliveries etc. that have to paid for immediately and obviously cannot be donated/shipped to them.

We will keep you posted on how you can help as information comes in. Right now we do know that there are more than 10 FOP members who have lost everything and we expect that this number will increase.

Thanks again for all of your support!
