Coming Soon: A New Lodge Web Site
Hello Lodge members! As you well know, things age quickly (except ourselves, of course); and this holds true for this DC Lodge #1 web site. I designed the existing site more than six years ago and it has performed as expected and planned. However, in an internet sort of way, the site is showing its advanced age. Much of its back-end programming is out-of-date — it wasn’t designed to be all that flexible or expandable. Doing small fixes and band-aids to this site was becoming problematic and more difficult.
Because of that — after months of work and testing — a completely new site will be premiering soon at www.dc-fop.org! It’ll have all the same information as the older site but in a new design that will allow for better expansion. It also should perform better on mobile devices. It has a comprehensive event calendar and will have expansion capabilities, eventually allowing better PayPal integration, invitation tracking, and other such things. In a second production phase, the Simulcast will be integrated as an online newsletter, but that itself is a big project and will take some time.
It will be a tricky process to bring the new site online and will require this old site to be taken down first. This may take several hours, but the membership will be notified when this happens. I’m hoping to have it done by the end of March, before the energies of Police Week take our attention.
Police Week Volunteers
We are once again using the online sign up tool from Sign Up Genius to register PW Volunteers.
Any member of FOP DC Lodge 1 who wants to work as volunteer at our "Tent City" location during Police Week should send a request to email@example.com. You will then receive an invite with the link to Sign Up Genius and access code. For security reasons we will not publish the link and access code publicly. Please note that all volunteers must be signed up in advance.
New volunteers are always welcome! There are plenty of jobs to go around. We can accommodate mobility and disability issues with "sit-down" jobs.
Family members and friends are also welcome to be volunteers as long as the member is also a volunteer or they are pre-approved by the committee in advance.
Community Service Volunteer Hours/Credits
Family members who need High School or College required community service credits can also volunteer and will be supervised by our Community Service Liaison. For more information on fulfilling community service requirements please contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
Attention Aluminum Can Collectors/Recyclers
The Police Week Committee is looking for DC Lodge 1 members who regularly collect aluminum cans for the purpose of turning them in to recycling centers for their scrap value. We are considering a profit sharing type of arrangement for the thousands of empty cans collected during police week. If this interests you and you want more information please contact us at email@example.com. This is just something we are looking into for now and is not confirmed.
United for Blue Rally!
United for Blue is gearing up for its 3rd Annual Police Support Rally on April 8, 2017 from 12 noon to 2pm. This year’s program will be just like our previous successful rallies and marches – after gathering at the National Law Enforcement Memorial at noon, a silent march will proceed to the U.S. Capitol. Guest speakers will include Craig Floyd, president and CEO of the National Law Enforcement Memorial Fund (NLEOMF); Peter Newsham, chief of the Washington DC Metropolitan Police Department; Andy Maybo, president of the Fraternal Order of Police Jerrard F. Young DC Lodge #1; and Patrick Burke, executive director of the DC Police Foundation; and more. Come out and show your support!
United for Blue would like to thank everyone from DC Lodge #1, the National FOP, the NLEOMF, as well as the Maryland, DC and Virginia Chapters of Concerns of Police Survivors, for all their support. Without the help and support United for Blue would not have been able to make the difference we have today. We are all part of the Blue Family and we stand stronger together. We look forward to growing our family bond and continuing to support our officers and uniting our communities.
For more information, please visit unitedforblue.org or send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. See you there!

The price of each coin is $10 plus a shipping and handling charge of $5 for 1-5 coins or $9 for 6-10 coins; otherwise, you can come by the Lodge on Wednesday, January 11 between 4:30p.m. and 8p.m. to buy them.
